Since the election of Donald Trump I have made a number of politically focused artists books. These books use gorgeous papers, alluring or charming images, and delicious colors to draw you in and then present you with disturbing information. This was an art making strategy I developed when making my 2007 to 2010 series called "Feminine Personae: Sinister Things and Beautiful Materials". The video above moves you through one of these books, "Barnum/Trump: There's a Sucker Born Every Minute", which gives a P.T. Barnum quote followed by a Trump quote on each page set. The pages below are from my book "Masters of War." The distressed pages, dappled with gold and silver leaf, together with the safety pin fastenings, are intended to convey something of the interaction between trauma and memory.
